Conversation of Faith Questions

Jesus said “I came that [you] may have life, and have it abundantly” (John ). Earlier we sang Jesus is Beautiful and in the song it says Jesus makes life beautiful. Are there ways you think that Jesus makes your life beautiful…makes life easier…more happy…

How does believing in Jesus or God help you when you are having a bad day?

Questions on your faith journey

How old are you?

Have you always attended this church?

Have you ever been to another church? What was different / the same?

What do you like about church? / don’t like?

Is there a certain prayer that you learned in church or at home that you like to pray?

How does it help you to pray it? Or when do you pray it and why?

What is your first memory of church?

What is the funniest thing that ever happened in church?

What is the strangest thing that ever happened in church?

Often when people graduate from high school and go off to work or to college they stop going to church on a regular basis. Did this happen to you?

Have you met people from other faiths while away at school?

Has this affected / changed what you believe or caused you to think more deeply or question what you believe?

How has your belief in God helped you in life?

When you think of God what image comes to mind?

When you think of Jesus what image comes to mind?

When you think of the Holy Spirit what image comes to mind?

We are members of the denomination of congregational faiths called the United Church of Christ. It came to be called that after four different communities of faith joined together. After lots of talking about their different and shared beliefs two joined together and then the other two joined together and after a few years those two combined groups joined together all under the belief in God, Christ and the Holy Spirit expresses a love for humankind that is inclusive of all kinds of people, animals, the earth and the universe. The UCC has a saying, a motto so to speak that I say every week at the beginning of worship. That is, “No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey you are most welcome here.”

When you hear that statement…”no matter who you are” what images does that bring up? What possibilities for who might be sitting in the congregation next to you?

We began by talking about your faith journey, in other words, how you first came to church and where your life has taken you in relation to your faith in God. When you hear “no matter where you are on life’s journey” what does that mean to you?

Our scriptures today from the Hebrew bible (what we used to call the Old Testament) and the Christian scripture (New Testament)  And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.
